Diary of a Wimpy Kid - The Long Haul

Due to high demand we've ordered two copies of the latest Diary of a Wimpy Kid book. Our students love the off beat humor, simple illustrations and the crazy situations our hapless hero finds himself.  It's a winning formula that kids world wide love.
Latest title in series

A family road trip is supposed to be a lot of fun . . . unless, of course, you’re the Heffleys. The journey starts off full of promise, then quickly takes several wrong turns…..

Life after Wimpy Kid……. yes there is!
Award winning NZ Author, Kate De Goldi  has some great suggestions to move readers on. Here's a few to get started:

Asterix series by RenĂ© Goscinny & Albert Uderzo and Tintin series by HergĂ©. These immortal books have great narrative drive, marvellous illustrations and sophisticated humour (Asterix has plenty of slapstick but also lots of language play). There are great casts of characters and inter-relationships. And there are heaps of titles in both series.

The Aldo Zelnick comic series by Karla Oceanak and Kendra Spanjer

DK Eyewitness Guides: Electricity by Steve Parker.
Eyewitness Guides are a wonderful series on just about any non-fiction subject. The mix of illustration, diagram and text is beautifully balanced, and fine design and production makes the series eminently attractive and readable. These are books to pore over…

The Boy and the Cherry Tree - Book of the Week

New Zealand Author and Illustrator team, Mark and Rowan Sommerset have created yet another beautiful crafted and delightful picture book, The Boy and the Cherry Tree. I love this book and I'm sure you will too!

A young boy dreams of climbing the beautiful tree across the river and tasting its sweet red fruit. His plans are stalled each time by an anxious bird who warns of the dangers.
Will the boy ever realize his dream?

Winner – Best Children's Book: PANZ New Zealand Book Design Awards
This husband and wife super team have also written the incredibly popular Baa Baa Smart sheep, Two little bugs, Cork on the ocean and I love Lemonade. All of which are available from Victory Primary School Library.

Check out Mark and Rowan's idyllic lifestyle on Waiheke Island -   I'm sure it's the inspiration behind their magical picture books
